(Note-for FM groups the standard Hungarian player fee is 12,000 HUF(40EUR/ 54USD;54CAN), foreigners see website list; everything is negotiable; No prizes)

Other Tournaments
Hidden from tourists are some real bargains. Budapest is the home of affordable tournaments. Many bargain tournaments available, all with prizes and modest entry fees. 

Some diligent digging is required to find these events. Check the Hungarian Federation event listing for events.

This is a wonderful event on the calender that I played in last year. This should be a great event again.

A cool blog from Australia.

As this blog is essentially a personal thing, I tend to focus mainly on local chess which I am familiar with and which means much to me. So here’s a brief round up of what’s happening around Melbourne at the moment.

Sorry to plug my own club first, but hey that’s life! Melbourne’s newest chess club, Glen Eira Chess Club has been closed for a couple of weeks but will reopen on this Friday, 19th July with a social night and some blitz. Soon after that we want to start with some long play round robin events and our aim is to build our membership. 

To help with this we have a brand new venue, the excellent Carnegie Library. Like before, we will run a junior club from 6 pm – 7 pm and then an adult club after that. We welcome all comers to our friendly little club! (Coffee rating of the neighbourhood is 4/5 with some really good cafes in Koornang Road)

European Youth TCh 2013 Rd7 Final Standings

Open
Poland in open tournament and Hungary in girls section are the  new European Youth Team champions. They absolutely deserved the gold medals.

Poland, after draw in first round, won all six remaining matches – big derby in last round with 4:0!

The Polish team had the absolute hero of the tournament: Kamil Dragun who won all his seven games on first board, with performance rating of 3085 points. Fantastic!

Girls
Girls from Hungary won their last match against little Russians and took the gold medals.

In good form was Juhasz, Barbara(HUN), the best player on board 2. Silver for Poland, with the winner of board 1 Anna Iwanow and bronze for local heroes, the second Slovenian team (Caterina Leonardi and Teja Vidic).
