4th International Chess Festival “Terre degli Elimi” in Erice-by Alessandro Monaco


The third edition of last year ended with the victory of the Russian grandmaster Vladimir Epishin, Georgian IM Sopiko Guramishvili placing second and IM Tapani Sammalvuo from Finland third.

This year the participation of foreign players has been remarkable: 35 players from 14 countries! At the start 82 players in the Open A and 18 in the Open B! For the Sicily an absolute record! 100 players in total.(more-See full report)

‘E’ il GM Csaba Horvath il vincitore del 2° Open internazionale del Salento che si è tenuto all’Ecoresort” Le Sirene” di Gallipoli, in Puglia.

In avvio il GM di origini russe Oleg Korneev, favorito e top del tabellone, sembrava poter facilmente dominare il torneo, specie dopo aver sconftto il campione del Kuwati Bader Al Hajiri.

Ma nel giorno del faticoso doppio turno, il campione russo ha subìto una doppia patta, prima contro l’IM di casa Pierluigi Piscopo, poi contro la campionessa indiana WGM Tania Sachdev, così l’ungherese ne ha approfittato conquistando la testa della classifica che non ha più perduto fino alla fine.
Il campione, quindi, è lui.’

Anna Rudolf had a tough weekend in February losing two games in the TCh-FIN. Here is her round 11 game. Black maneuvered for a long time trying to make something with the bishop pair and then eventually ground out an opposite color B-B ending.
