I had the initial slight edge but managed to misplay the position in horrific fashion.

Hashem, Khaled(KUW) won top unrated on tiebreak over Al Azmi, Khalaf(KUW) both scoring 4/9.

You can look forward to a nice tournament report on Hashem’s site Kuwaitchess. He was part of a large group of Kuwait players I had the pleasure of meeting during the tournament.

Perhaps we will see a similar group in the coming Budapest Open(August).

Aczel, Gergely and Hujbert, Florian shared first with 7.5/9. Grimm,D had a great sucess with 7/9. Hashem, Khaled(KUW) won top unrated with a strong performance.

I was one of many who performed below expected levels which is why in turn so many players did well.

Today’s game is 9:00am.

I’ll have more material up later in the day. I lost a long hard game yesterday from a Philidor with black against Szoke,G(1922) and now have 4/8.

My position was favorable but I chose the wrong moment for active play and the game turned in a queenless middlegame.

The leaders took no chances and drew on board1. Aczel tried hard to win but Horvath held his ground for the draw. Kojima climbed up by defeating talented Farkas,R with black. Medve,M continued his strong performace with a draw against Jacso.
