Budapest TCh 2014 Rd11(Season End)

My team, RAC I, took first overall in Division I and earned a promotion to the National team league. RAC II took clear second in Division II and will be promoted to Division I.

I contributed a win with white on board 10 for RAC II and we won the match 10.5-1.5.

After 25..Ke8(diagram) White had just broken through on the h-file and is looking for the kill.

After 25..Ke8 Yip-Kormos,K(1748)

White finished the job with 26.Bxd5! forcing the e-file open and resignation followed in a few moves.

Well done everyone! Our captain thoughtfully brought a bottle of champagne which we shared after the game. (Pictures will be available soon)

PGNs of games will be available in a couple of weeks for only a limited number of boards in the A section according to the organizers. Apparently there was not enough money available for a complete input job for the A and B sections. This is a pity for this otherwise first class event.

I managed to win with white against a Budapest Gambit. I had a good position for most of the game and played to exploit the bishop pair and better center. After a long massage I managed to break the queenside down and started to take material.

Black tried the desperation 38..Bxf3!?/?! (Diagram) With the hope of 39.gh?? Nxf3+ forking off the queen.

I forced off the queens with 39.Qe4+ Qxe4 40.fe and won the ending easily with the extra pawns and bishop pair dominating the board.

I walked into a combination today and lost. I defended the Philidor again and after 18.Rh3(diagram) black was under big pressure on the kingside.

18..Nh5?(already black is lost but in the game I thought this was quite clever to block off the h-file) 19.Be3 Qg7(diagram) (This was my big plan to relieve the pressure by forcing a queen trade. After black can play for a blockade of the e6 pawn with ..Ng7-e6 and be quite happy.)
