I tried something new and was rewarded with a cold shower of reality and a draw. My play was creative and imprecise as I made a wide range of mistakes in this so-so game.

Rakosmente Open 2013-04 Rd6 Results

Rd6 Results and Final Standings
Suryani,P(FIDE 2152) and I bothi scored 5-1 but I took first with better tiebreaks. The result would have surely been different had Suranyi asked for a half-point bye for rd1 instead of getting the automatic zero point bye.

He beat me in our individual encounter in rd6 in a tense game. Suryani is my RAC teammate and raced off to play in the Torokves RR(rd 3) right after. I wisely took two byes(friday and sunday) for a more manageable weekend of chess.

Here is my rd6 game with the top seed.

I got a complex position with play for both sides but eventually the better player won.

Today was a brutal day. I played three rather inconsistent games and won all of them to take clear first with 4/4, with 2 games to play tomorrow.

The last game of the day was a comedy of errors and in the end I was lucky enough to escape with a win. Both players missed tactical shots all over the place but the murky course of the game eventually favored me.

Here is the game.

Rakosmente Open 2013-04 Rd1

I was a bit surprised to be the top seed. I won my round 1 game but was the last to finish against my young opponent(Viola,G FIDE 1290) who defended with the Budapest Gambit.

I managed to take a few pictures with a borrowed camera so hopefully later there will be a more complete report.

After the game I borrowed Szabo,L Best Games(Hungarian language) from the club library-yet another benefit of the tournament-and had my usual informative but short little chat with Nadasi,B about Hungarian chess history.

Tomorrow will be a long day with 3 games starting at 09:00.

Torokves Open 2013 Rd1

I won my first round game quickly and will take byes in rds 2-3 to play in the Rakosmente Open this weekend (April 19-21).  There were 15 boards in the Open and two RR groups on 10 players.

My RAC teammate will try to be superman and play in the Torokves A RR group and also play in the Rakosmente Open by arranging a magic draw in rd2 of the RR and then playying two games on April 21 in the Rakosmente Open and then playing his rd3 game of the Torokves RR later on Sunday.

Ronyai, Imre(1600) had the upset of the round beating Bogar, Ferenc Dr.(1845) on the white side of a French Defence.
