Use your opponents force against him. A bit like Petrosian?

The physics of Aikido, wave motion, changing your center of gravity,  the redirection of force etc..

Interesting was Senator Robert Kennedy’s bodyguard vs Aikido master…

Perenyi Memorial 2013-01 Rd2

(Jan 14-2013-updated game for complete score)
I lost a long game to veteran IM Szalancy. It took a long time to actually lose but the game was decided very early in the middlegame when I tried an active line with a tactical hole. Then I found a way to accelerate my demise.

My game was one of the last to finish so I was unable to see what was happening with the other games.

Position 1
Black has committed to active defense and is now attacking the e-pawn. How should white respond?

Houdini3.0 vs Houdini2.0

I gave Houdini3.0 a try just to see what the fuss was about.

Observations
Houdini3.0

  • is much better at memory management. I can run it with 2GB RAM and CB only freezes up momentarily when I enter a new variation. I had to run Houdini2.0 with 1GB RAM to limit the freezing up of CB.
  • is stronger in the one position I tested from the Xmas Open.

Black to Play

32.Nd5+

Here I resigned(after 32.Nd5+) seeing that white will win a piece.

Houdini2.0 had to go deeply into the line before seeing that black was slightly better. Houdini3.0 sees this right away and both programs made me feel silly for resigning.

Not scientific evidence but I am quite happy with Houdini3.0.

14.Ne2!? transfers the knight to the kingside while offering the e-pawn as a gambit. This is one of the latest attempts for white break the Semi-Slav. Analysis shows that it is dangerous to accept the pawn so black is left with the question of how to properly uphold the Semi-Slav.

I won my game quickly as my opponent gave me a piece on move 11 in a Budapest Gambit.

There were some surprising draws as IM To drew. My teammate Radnai drew his student Terbe,J. A couple of the Kuwati players came a long way to play each other on board 33.
