Budapest Spring Festival 2017 March 18
The biggest tournament of the year has arrived. Otherwise just another normal day.
Attacking the Flexible Sicilian includes 38 annotated games and weighs in at 400 pages. I don’t play 1.e4 but this seemed like a great book to look at.

U2200 Starting Rank
I will be number 56 in a massive group.

Monday 6-board TCh Rd8(Mar 13)
The other team only had 4 players so my services were not needed.

MTK narrowly beat UKSE 3,5-2,5 last round.

Honestly I just did not see the rather obvious followup.

Repairs
I put off looking at the game for a week or so and got down to figuring out what the improvements should be. Here Black has to devise a better plan than my 10..Qc7?!
I think 10..Rc7 is the key move, to be followed by ..d6 and ..Nb8-d7 to release the Bb7.

Hopefully the Home Page of the Hungarian Federation will have English translation for at least the menus soon for incoming international players.

Revision and Exam
This is a review of The Fundamentals(unrated to 1600 I think). I thought a review would be a good warmup considering my rather sad results over the last year but I find this book quite challenging.
Sample Question
I gave this problem to a couple of friends(one over 2300 and one 2000) and nobody has correctly solved it. Not to mention all I got was a headache, and I was trying my hardest.

This summer’s homework just arrived.
GM Csaba Balogh is working really hard with his colleagues these days. Available from New in Chess.

“May I mediate a draw between you fine gentlemen or would you prefer to continue to play out this endgame?”
I blinked and there are even more…

The Zaitsev System in the Closed Spanish(C92)
I have tried the Petroff and the Berlin Defence recently but these seem quite boring. Possibly The Zaitsev System has more action.
Inarkiev-Oparin,Aeroflot Open 2017
After 23.e5(Diagram)
White has more space and big holes on the queenside to take aim at. One likely plan is move the queen and then follow with Nb3-c5 with total domination of the queenside.
How should Black continue?
